Gonzales and McCain, Both Political Hacks on Life Support

John McCain has gone from straight talking political maverick to doddering old senile whackjob.

McCain had his Fonzie moment (i.e. jumped the shark) when he walked casually around a Baghdad market and declared the country was safe for tourism, “Aaaaayyyy!” (while being surrounded by a cadre of armed military protectors).  His backpeddling and clarification have served to make him look more out of touch or pre-senile and his campaign is now being touted as dead in the water.  You can’t blatantly lie to people and get away with it anymore John,  that is so Bush 2004.

Gonzales keeps on cramming for his testimony before Congress praying like an unprepared freshman that he will somehow be able to bullshit his way through the essay portion and pull a C out of his ass.  His staff is so concerned about his inability to keep their lies straight that they have pulled him from any interviews prior to his testimony.

I know I said he would be gone by now but the excrutiatingly slow process is revealing more criminal wrongdoing by President Bush and his closest aides.  Like this.

My First Celebrity Reader

Sorry it has been so long since I posted but my job has been kicking my ass.  About the only thing that could inspire me to post again is a surprise comment from someone I had previously written about.

Midge Potts, the transgendered peace activist who created quite a stir by protesting during Valerie Plame’s testimony, read my article on her and left a comment.  Read her comment and leave your own.

Welcome to Conservative Fighter Midge, I hope you stick around and add your thoughts to other posts.

2 Degrees of Separation

I just got a hot tip about a story which, once again, demonstrates the hypocrisy and pent up sexual frustration of repressed right wing christians.  This particular story has a twist because it is not a male pastor that is molesting the children in his care, it is a female christian school teacher who is charged with molesting a 14 year old female student.  The 37 year old Kansan, Marsha Mote, turned herself into authorities today and was bonded out.  She is, the wife of the associate pastor of the Tyro Community Christian Church, who has taken a leave of absence.  According to one article, Mrs. Mote, you will be glad to know, has, ”…resigned as a teacher and has stopped participating in church youth volunteer programs.

She is, as all good christians who are caught diddling the kids, now enrolled in therapy and counseling.  She will probably be cured a’ la Ted Haggard in about 3 weeks.

I am connected to Mrs. Mote by one person, who will remain nameless so as not to paint him with her shame.

An ironic announcement from the church’s website:

Teen-N-Joy

I don’t think I want my teen to “N-Joy” and,  ”get to know a great group from another generation,” thank you very much.

Bush expressed unwavering support for Gonzales

That means he has about a week before he is either fired or steps down to “spend time with his family”.  Bush saying he supports you and is not going to make any changes  is like Michael Corleone kissing you and saying you broke his heart.  You know you don’t have long left.

Remember this:

Bush reaffirms support for Rumsfeld

Bush is historically incredibly willful and childish when it comes to getting rid of his croneys who get caught screwing up and/or breaking the law, insisting that they have his support and refusing to stand up like a leader and fire them, until the situation becomes unbearable even to republican lawmakers.

He did the same thing for Scooter and Brownie (which is not a new flavor of Ben and Jerry’s).

I think Bush thinks it makes him look strong but it makes him look foolish, out of touch and (gasp!) not in charge.

It would be funny if it weren’t so unbelievably bad for our country.

What would a “victory” in Iraq look like?

I keep getting in debates with conservatives who say we can’t leave Iraq until we have achieved “victory”.  What I haven’t heard and no one can seem to verbalize is what qualifies as a victory and what we have to do to earn one.

Can anyone tell me?  And please don’t give me the GWB right wind delusional talking points like, “we will stand down when the Iraqi’s stand up” bullshit…concrete achievable definable goals.

Anyone?  Beuller?

Whitehouse Interviewing Gonzalez Replacement

Once I make a prediction, nothing can stop it from coming true…except for that “Kerry will win in November,” thing.  So when I predicted a short time ago that AG Alberto Gonzalez would be without a job in the next two weeks, not many agreed with me.

The latest…

Republican officials operating at the behest of the White House have begun seeking a possible successor to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, whose support among GOP lawmakers on Capitol Hill has collapsed, according to party sources familiar with the discussions.

Among the names floated Monday by administration officials are Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff and White House anti-terrorism coordinator Frances Townsend. Former Deputy Attorney General Larry Thompson is a White House prospect. So is former solicitor general Theodore B. Olson, but sources were unsure whether he would want the job.

Republican sources also disclosed that it is now a virtual certainty that Deputy Attorney General Paul J. McNulty, whose incomplete and inaccurate congressional testimony about the prosecutors helped precipitate the crisis, will also resign shortly. Officials were debating whether Gonzales and McNulty should depart at the same time or whether McNulty should go a day or two after Gonzales. Still known as “The Judge” for his service on the Texas Supreme Court, Gonzales is one of the few remaining original Texans who came to Washington with President Bush.

In a sign of Republican despair, GOP political strategists on Capitol Hill said that it is too late for Gonzales’ departure to head off a full-scale Democratic investigation into the motives and timing behind the firing of eight U.S. attorneys.

In Defense of Midge Potts

When I first viewed the video of Valerie Plame Wilson testifying before Congress I was bothered by the sight of a pink clad, pillbox hat wearing, muscular blonde woman popping up and down in the audience seated behind the witness table.  This woman was wearing a homemade t-shirt which said “Impeach Bush”.  She stretched, yawned, moved, stood on tiptoes and did whatever else she could to stay in the frame while Plame testified.  It was annoying, flamboyant and somewhat clownish.

I later found out the woman is named Midge Potts and she used to be in the United States Navy…and a Republican Congressional candidate…and a man.  Yep, Midge used to be Mitch and because of her colorful past, the story of the transgendered ex-navy, ex-Republican protestor in pink peaked alot of interest in the media and blogosphere.

“What the fuck is wrong with these protestors,” I said to myself.  Can’t they see that this kind of ridiculous behavior weakens sincere criticism of Bush and the war and plays into the hands of the right wing echo chamber?  Rush, Hannity, O’Reilly and the rest of the hypocritical right wing Bush-apologists will trip over each other with this little gem and use it to paint anyone who protests the war as a freak and a joke.  Hell, even the mainstream late night talk shows won’t be able to resist a Jackie-O fashionista, transgendered, ex-navy protester named Midge…the jokes practically write themselves.  Look for an parody skit on SNL or Mad TV coming to a tv near you soon.

I was going to write about the way groups like Code Pink and Act-Up among others need to find more professional and staid representatives in order to be taken seriously by mainstream America.

The more I thought about it, though, the more I realized that at least Midge is doing something to protest this war.  It is easy for me to sit back and criticize those who have the courage to stand up against our corrupt government and get in the representatives faces about their complete failure to hold thePresident Bush accountable for his many, many, many failures and lies.

Midge is doing something that she must know will get her criticized, arrested, parodied, lambasted and attacked on all mediums.  She feels so strongly about the wrongness of this war and the sanctity of protest that she goes out and engages firsthand in Democracy. Whether or not I agree with the way she does it, she has more courage and conviction in her beliefs than I do and, for that, I admire her and respect what she is doing.

My wife and I have asked ourselves, “What have you done to stop this war?”, and our answer, for the most part, is bitch to ourselves and our friends, engage in the occassional debate with our right wing relatives and friends and write a few emails to our representatives in government.  It’s not enough and the failure of so many people to actively engage in protest has empowered the corrupt in this country.  We, who do nothing, are complicit in the immoral actions of those who represent us.  Our selfish concern about other people’s opinions keeps us from protesting that which we know is wrong.

Code Pink refuses to let what other people think of them stop them from doing what is right.  Like Ghandi and Martin Luther King, Jr. they won’t let the powerful mock them into submission.  Ghandi said, “First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win”.  You can bet they aren’t going to ignore Midge anymore and they will laugh at her, so she is almost there.

I salute your courage to do something while so many others, including me, do nothing…keep on standing up to the powerful in our country and do it in whatever outfit you choose.

Liberal Activist Chicks Turn Me On

There is something distinctly sexy about strong women.  A woman with a strong political viewpoint willing to fight the powers that be is very attractive to me.  I married a strong woman who is my better in most every way possible.  Obviously I am only attracted to strong willed liberal women, conservative women have the exact opposite effect on me.  Shrill harpies like Ann Coulter, Michelle Malkin, and any female in a Fox News anchor chair leave me limp.

Here are a couple of hot chicks who have spoken out:

Conservative A-Hole Kharmic Payback

The Wicked Witch’s mean sister and all around beeyatch, Rep. Jean Schmidt (R), who says stuff like this:

Slipped and fell in a Congressional bathroom, reportedly in someone elses… well, read it yourself.

Meanwhile, today on the Hill, Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-Ohio) was seen making a spectacle of herself when the unlucky lawmaker slipped and fell in what we’re told was vomit, in a bathroom in Cannon. (Some nice female dealing with the repercussions of  Jason Roe’s going away party by chance?) “She made THE biggest scene in the hallway,” says a staffer who escaped the, um, regurgitation. “It’s literally all down her back.”

Now I don’t care who you are, that’s funny.

Former Covert Agent Testifies

Valerie Plame laid it all out for Congress today.  She was covert.  She didn’t send her husband to Niger.  Bush and his crew put agents lives at risk and wrecked a covert group assigned to uncover WMD worldwide.

Why hasn’t he been impeached yet?
